Questions and Answers

Question: Why do I see bleeding gums when I’m brushing my smile or flossing between my teeth? Is this normal?

Answer: This is not normal. It could be your gums letting you know that you have gingivitis. You may have brushed too hard. You could have even cut your gum earlier in the day without realizing it. (Note: This is a very common gum disease symptom!).

Question: If I have bleeding gums, then does this mean I most likely have gum disease? How do I know if I need to see you or if everything is okay?

Answer: When your gums are bleeding, you need to see us no matter what. It’s impossible to determine on your own whether your gums are simply irritated, if you have gingivitis, etc. Schedule a visit with us and you will have the information you need (and we will set up any required treatments).

Question: If I don’t see that I have bleeding gums but I notice what I assume is blood in the sink, should I immediately set up a visit with you?

Answer: Not so fast! Ask yourself if you ate anything pink or red before brushing and you might have solved the mystery! Otherwise, give us a call.
