We find that patients sometimes force themselves to ask us questions about dental hygiene that they assumed were strange in some way, only to discover that the inquiries are perfectly normal. Whether you have questions you think are weird or run-of-the-mill, it’s important you remember you are always welcome to ask them. Having the information you need can greatly improve your confidence when it comes to your smile care.
Questions and Answers
Question: Is it weird for me to brush my teeth in the shower, so I can “kill two birds with one stone” so to speak?
Answer: While the majority of patients certainly brush their teeth in the bathroom in front of their sinks, that doesn’t mean it is not perfectly acceptable to brush elsewhere. Provided you brush correctly and for two minutes, you’re sure to keep your brush clean and safe, and you remember the rest of your dental hygiene (flossing), then this is fine!
Question: Is it weird if I love the sensation of brushing and flossing?
Answer: You’re not necessarily in the majority on this one. Most patients find it to be a neutral sensation (or a bad one if they require restorative care or if they’re too aggressive). However, we are happy to hear you enjoy dental hygiene! Just don’t do it too frequently. For example, you don’t want to brush so often that you erode your enamel.
Question: Is it weird that I quickly inspect my mouth every time I brush and floss?
Answer: Not at all. Unless you feel compelled or are overly worried about disease, then it’s perfectly wonderful for you to take a glance at your smile in the mirror. If you notice changes, you can call us for a checkup right away.
