Questions and Answers: Flossing

Question: How often should I floss my teeth?

Answer: You should floss your teeth every single day – one time a day. If you are someone who gets food trapped between your teeth or who enjoys flossing twice daily, this is just fine. Just remember to use gentle pressure to avoid irritating your smile.

Question: I don’t know if I’m flossing my teeth right or not. Is there a proper technique to follow to protect my oral health?

Answer: There is! Don’t wind the floss around your index fingers but around your middle fingers instead. Then, let your index fingers and thumbs move the floss where it needs to go. Cup the floss to the side around one tooth; gently slide it along your tooth’s entire edge, beginning beneath your gumline. Repeat this until each tooth edge has been flossed.

Question: How do I know if I’m using the right dental floss?

Answer: Everyone has unique oral health needs. True, everyone needs to floss – but the floss you choose may be different than the floss your friend chooses. Our best advice: Test the options available to you, read the packaging for features that speak to your needs (perhaps you have sensitive gums or crowded teeth), and go from there.
