#1: Soda!
We’ve covered this one before and we will cover it again: Soda is bad for your smile. There are no circumstances in which it is going to be okay for your smile, good for your smile, or not damaging. We say this so specifically because we know you may suddenly think that as long as you select a variety sweetened with xylitol instead of sugar, that’s clear instead of cola, etc., you may have found a way to drink it safely but this is simply not the case. The oh-so-acidic drink is not good for your smile health no matter what.
#2: Sparkling Water
Surprise! Sparkling water isn’t bad or dangerous for your grin. If you tend to mentally categorize it in the same family as soda, then this can be cause for some confusion. Just try to remember that as long as you’re drinking this bubbly drink and it just contains water and carbonation, then there’s nothing to worry about in terms of your smile health. Of course, our team reminds you that if there are other ingredients involved to alter the taste, color, or sweetness of the drink … then that is a different story! Otherwise, go ahead and enjoy.
#3: Sports Drinks
Sports drinks always seem like a smart, beneficial choice because they promise to help you rehydrate after you’ve worked out, participated in athletics, you’ve perspired, and now you need to restore your electrolytes! This all sounds good and you might be doing something beneficial for your body but when you indulge in these drinks, you are probably not aware that they are very acidic. As mentioned in regard to beverages in general, this is one of the worst things you can expose your teeth to, so be careful! Drink water once you’re through or just skip it altogether and stick with water.
