#1: Too Much Chewing
Who knew you could chew too much? While this isn’t always a bad habit for all patients, it can become something that negatively influences your oral health. For instance, if you are already dealing with TMJ disorder or bruxism, all of that movement will make things worse. If you aren’t, too much motion from jaw joints and your smile can tire jaw joints and lead to future problems. Simply remember to use your fork and knife, to take reasonable sized bites, and to limit snacking if we determine that it will be to your advantage.
#2: Snacking On Hard Items (Like Ice)
Now, for the types of snacks you may be consuming! In addition to the fact that lots of snacking can be detrimental to your oral health and the fact that eating foods that are too hard or chewy can be a problem, you have the following: Snacking on extra hard or chewy foods can lead to damaged teeth, strained jaw joints, and more. Remember, a habit like chewing on ice every day is something to give up ASAP!
#3: Falling Asleep Before Brushing And Flossing
It’s very possible that you convince yourself after accidentally falling asleep without brushing and flossing one night that you’ll never do it again! However, when your smile feels okay in the morning, you brush and floss, and all seems well, you may end up letting it happen again (and again). Remember, skipping even one of your daily brushing sessions can lead to cavities and more. Remind yourself to practice dental hygiene before you allow yourself to lie down to stop this from turning into a bad habit!
