Bad Breath: 3 Tips For Improvement

Yep. Bad breath is embarrassing. It’s also something that comes and goes occasionally or that you find you have a chronic problem with. When it’s the latter, you may hear us refer to it as halitosis. Of course, no matter what you call it, you want it to go away as quickly as possible! So, where to begin? We have a few tips to help you fix things on your own. However, if you aren’t making any progress, remember that a visit with our team is the next best step!

#1: Ditch The Garlic

What are you eating that might be giving you some seriously bad breath? Are you eating garlic? Onions? Other heavily scented and pungent spices or foods? When you’re not sure about the cause, going with super bland foods for a few days will let you know whether it’s just your meal choices or something to do with your smile health.

#2: Review Your Dental Hygiene

Plain and simple: If you’re not brushing, flossing, and maintaining a consistent dental visit schedule, you may have more bacteria in your mouth than you should. Bacteria create a lot of problems … including bad breath! Check in on (and improve) your habits.

#3: Check For Dry Mouth

If you’re currently dealing with seasonal allergies, you’re getting over a cold, or you’re taking medication that can cause it, you may be dealing with dry mouth. Whether it’s the side effect of a drug you’re taking or it’s the direct result of your recent mouth-breathing, it can make your breath smell a bit funky (because bacteria aren’t being rinsed away by saliva). Drink more water, address the cause of your dry tissues, and the problem may clear up. If not, call us!
