What is CEREC?
CEREC stands for Chairside Economic Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. With the aid of a computer, your dentist will take a very precise mold and measurements of your tooth and mouth. The measurements will be communicated to an on-site milling machine which will sculpt and create your crown right there in the office. The crown will be precisely crafted to the measurements, fit, and color to match your teeth.
Benefits of a dental crown
Once the crown is created by the milling machine, your dentist will fit it to your tooth and permanently attach it. A crown fits on top of a vulnerable tooth to protect it. Think of a crown like a permanent helmet. Teeth that have been severely decayed, chipped, cracked, broken, or treated with a root canal need restoration to get them back to full function. A dental crown can also used for cosmetic reasons. If a tooth is oddly shaped or differently sized than other teeth, a crown can add some symmetry to your bite and smile.
