Fast Facts: Cleaning Your Toothbrush

So, you know which type of toothbrush you should use to ensure you enjoy excellent dental hygiene and oral health. You also know that it’s important that you brush your teeth twice daily (for the rest of your life!) to protect your smile. What you might not know, though, is that there’s a right way to clean your toothbrush. There are also a lot of unnecessary suggestions out there that might make you question your efforts. Let’s clear up the confusion with some fast facts.

Fact: Brush Cleaning Is Simple

Yep, it’s true. Cleaning your toothbrush is a very easy, simple part of your dental hygiene session. It begins as soon as you are finished brushing your teeth. You will hold the head of the toothbrush beneath running water, so the debris and toothpaste rinse away. You may choose to improve the process by using your fingers to help things along. That’s it!

Fact: Your Toothbrush Needs Air

You don’t want to smother your toothbrush once it’s clean! You might think that it’s a good idea to toss it into a cosmetics bag, toothbrush holder, or dark cabinet – but it is not. It needs air, so it can thoroughly dry. Worried about it picking up additional bacteria? Keep it upright in a stand or cup for protection.

Fact: Your Brush Really Is Clean Enough

Concerned that by your next dental hygiene session, your brush won’t be clean enough – and that maybe you should be taking more extreme measures? Don’t be worried. You don’t need to soak the brush in hot water, pour mouthwash over the bristles, or anything else you may have heard. Just follow our instructions and you’re ready.
