3 Ways You’re Drying Out Your Lips

Have you been wondering what’s going on with your lips? Is it an oral health issue, you wonder? Perhaps they are feeling a bit parched. This may come up as the result of multiple issues. For instance, your entire body may be dehydrated, which means your lips are lacking in moisture, too. Or, the weather may have turned quite dry or cold, leaving you with dry skin and uncomfortable lips. Allow us to help you identify the problem, so you can address the source and enjoy the relief you seek.

#1: You Keep Licking Them

Unfortunately, the more you lick your lips, the more irritated and dried out they are going to become. Avoid the urge to lick your smackers throughout the day and instead, reach for something soothing. There is an endless variety of lip treatments out there in just about any consistency you can imagine. Scented or unscented, with or without SPF. There are even matte finish options for those who aren’t looking for shiny lips.

#2: You’re Mouth Breathing

Perhaps your lips are dried out but it’s not an oral health issue – it’s a general health issue. If you’re congested, you may be mouth breathing to bring in sufficient oxygen. Unfortunately, this may lead to dry lips and a dry mouth (which, as it turns out, can become an oral health issue!). Address congestion problems to alleviate your lip concerns and to protect your smile.

#3: You’re Eating Too Many Salty Foods

Salt is the great dehydrator and it just happens to suck the moisture from your lips, as well. If you’re eating a lot of salty foods, you may be dehydrating your lips (and yourself). Keep your oral health, your lips, and your body in good shape by avoiding excess sodium.
